At 23 Ingrid was promoted to the role of Creative Director for Learnthings South Africa. A new media company owned by the UK-based Guardian ensured that the stable of designers and developers under her care went on to win a number of international awards.

In a leap of faith taken by Ingrid in 2006, Ingrid launched her own design and publishing agency.

With a keen interest in online media, Ingrid founded the first online design & lifestyle magazine in South Africa called BigCityLife. Ingrid took on various roles growing her portfolio of skills to include not only the creative but also the more operations focused side of the business. Ingrid conceptualised and launched this popular aspect of her company. With a strong personal conviction that human stories are what drives engagement. Ingrid ensures that the editorial content is intelligent and creative, as well as fun and accessible for all readers. BCL became the definitive guide to good living in South Africa and has the advantage of being an affordable channel for entrepreneurs and artisans to market their small and medium enterprises to an engaged and quantifiable audience. In addition, BCL offers corporate advertisers a space to connect and talk to the people of South Africa in an honest, old-fashioned way.

There have been seminal moments in the evolution of BCL – having a following of 100,000+ and an average monthly reach of 4 million users gave her the confidence to acknowledge that she has an intrinsic understanding of creative content development and what makes a brand work and most of all loved.

Other BigCityLife projects include the development and design of the luxury magazine United Maverick, who’s photography content, shot by Ingrid, has gone onto achieve international success, including an NYC fashion and beauty award. The conceptualisation and development of what became one of JHB top 10 restaurants, along with growing Africas largest Air Charter company from a R10 million a year business to one that exceeds R150 million +.
